Tap Dancing

Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by a tapping sound that is created from metal plates attached to both the ball and heel of the dancer’s shoe.

These metal plates, when tapped against a suitable surface, create a percussive sound and as such tap dance is both a form of dance as well as the act of playing a musical instrument.

At DLDC we teach a CSTD syllabus to all our Tap students.

Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dance (CSTD) is one of the great International Dance Societies, proudly serving dance for over 77 years.
Whether your child wants to take their dance to the next level as their career path, or they want to participate as fun fitness each week, these technique classes are always fun, challenging and rewarding.

Our Artistic Director, Simon Lind is our Tap specialist and with many years working as a professional performer. He is well versed in not only the professional side, but also all the training it takes to get to the top. Simon also spent 7 years shooting the ‘Happy Feet’ movies, where he tapped as a penguin and many other characters in the film.

Through the CSTD, DLDC teach the following syllabi:

Tinies Tap and Level 1 Tap -Tap examinations for younger children

Small children are taught the basic technique of tapping through set exercises at the barre and across the dance floor. Their training at these levels culminates in their ability to complete short tap dances to music keeping timing and rhythm. Students can be entered for CSTD examinations annually.
